How to calm a busy mind

Do you have a busy mind?
Does the term ‘thought storm’ resonate with you?
Do your thoughts sometimes whirl so fast, you barely notice what’s going on around you?

At these times,

You might try and think different, calmer, more positive thoughts.

You might try to read an inspiring book to help calm your thoughts (perhaps even one of mine 😊).

Or, you might remind yourself of deep insights you’ve had in the past.

All in an attempt to access that calm, clear, magical space I talk about in my online program The Academy of Magic.

But when your mind is very busy, it just doesn’t work.
The words just seem to ‘bounce off’.
And it seems the harder you try and calm your mind with spiritual messages, the faster your mind spins.

So what should you do?

Well, I find it helps to see a busy human mind as a bit like a gyroscope.  

If you’ve ever tried to forcibly stop a gyroscope from spinning, you’ll know it’s not an easy task. If you try and move it or tip it, or change its direction, you just find yourself repelled by the force of the spin. Try and stop it spinning and you’ll find your hands literally flung away by the whirling force of the little device. It needs to be left alone to slow down all on its own.

This is how it is when we try and forcibly calm our minds with spiritual messages.

Because without realising it, all that trying, and all that mental effort just adds to the spinning of the gyroscope. While it’s spinning, the messages can’t get through.  They just bounce off.

The words don’t have a chance to resonate. And every little effort we make to make them resonate just makes the gyroscope of our minds spin a little faster.

So, the next time you’re trying to ‘be spiritual’ but your mind is too busy, remember the gyroscope…

Stop, wait. Let the spinning slow on its own.

There’s nothing you have to think. There’s nothing you have to do.

You don’t need to go looking for truth and understanding, because these things already live within you.

And when the gyroscope stops, they will bubble up and reveal themselves to you…effortlessly.
